The main focus of this thesis is the behaviour of two-dimensional materials, namely (anti)-ferromagnetic materials in the first two chapters, which show topological phases, and energetic square ice in the third and fourth chapter.

Sinds begin dit jaar bestaat het LDE-Centre Governance of Migration and Diversity, dat met een multidisciplinaire blik naar bestuurs- en beleidsvraagstukken in vier Zuid-Hollandse steden kijkt. Bijzonder is dat er al afgestudeerde masterstudenten op dit specialistische gebied rondlopen.

De Monitoring Commissie Corporate Governance Code heeft een consultatiedocument gepubliceerd met voorstellen voor actualisatie van de Nederlandse Corporate Governance Code. In de aanpassingsvoorstellen is input van Leidse wetenschappers overgenomen.

Eens per jaar worden door het Leids Universiteits Fonds subsidies toegekend voor onderzoeks- en onderwijsprojecten in verschillende wetenschapsgebieden. De Faculteit Governance and Global Affairs haalt dit jaar drie subsidies binnen voor Honorata Mazepus, Tanachia Ashikali en Jaroslaw Kantorowicz.
