Zelf ervaren hoe het is om te studeren. Een proefcollege volgen om er achter te komen wat de studie precies inhoudt. Of ze nu twijfelen tussen een paar studies of bevestiging zoeken van hun studiekeuze, hiervoor kwamen bezoekers naar Proefstuderen bij Leiden Science.

Binnenkort begint onderaannemer Waldner met de inbouw van de laboratoria in de nieuwe Science Campus. De contracten hiertoe zijn op 22 juli getekend, onder anderen door de vice-voorzitter van de Universiteit Leiden, Willem te Beest.

De Leiden Science Run 2019 staat in het teken van Scholars at Risk, een programma van Stichting voor Vluchteling-Studenten UAF. Dit programma biedt bedreigde wetenschappers de mogelijkheid om hun onderzoekswerk tijdelijk voort te zetten in een veilige academische omgeving.

Op 20 februari 2019 vond een bijzondere bijeenkomst over data science plaats in de Tweede Kamer. De doelstelling van de bijeenkomst was om met overheidsorganisaties in dialoog te gaan over dataontwikkelingen binnen de overheid.

In de Leiden Municipality Challenge onderzochten 25 studenten hoe Leiden duurzamer kan worden. Hierbij schakelden zij de hulp in van de inwoners van de stad. ‘Wanneer burgers zelf deelnemen aan het onderzoeksproces, begrijpen zij beter hoe de wetenschap in elkaar steekt.’

Het is nog even weg, maar wel iets om naar uit te kijken: Leiden is uitgeroepen tot European City of Science 2022. Een prestigieuze titel waarmee Leiden een jaar lang fungeert als het Europese podium voor het Nederlandse wetenschapslandschap.

‘Hoe ziet mijn eerste collegemaand eruit?’ en ‘Wat zijn de beste plekjes om te wonen in Leiden?’ Op vrijdag 5 juni konden zo’n 80 aankomende studenten van de opleidingen Biologie en Natuurkunde nog voor de allerlaatste keer vragen stellen over hun toekomstige studie.
