Learning through and from hackathons

Daniela Gawehns (PhD candidate at LIACS, the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science) will briefly introduce the concept of hackathons and then share experiences with Ben Companjen and Kristina Hettne (Digital Scholarship Librarians from the Centre for Digital Scholarship) in organizing and participating in hackathons such as the Reprohack, HackaLOD, Bring Your Own Data workshops, and Metadata for Machine workshops.

The session will then welcome everyone into a discussion about why, how, and when, to organize a hackathon in the context of data sharing or data management.

The main session will last one hour with extra time allocated for continuing the discussion with those who wish to stay a bit longer. You are very welcome with your views and your questions (or just your ears!) for either the first hour, or longer if you want.

Data Management Network members should have already received a meeting link. Please contact datamanagement@library.leidenuniv.nl if you did not, or you’re not a member of the network but would also like to receive the meeting invitation.

About Connect & events

This event is part of the “Connect and …” series of meetings arranged by, and for, the Leiden University Data Management Network. The meetings take around the middle of the month, every month, at different days and times, so as to maximize access according to people’s different working hours. Topics and speakers are proposed by members of the Network.

You can post a suggestion in the Network’s MSTeams space, or write to datamanagement@library.leidenuniv.nl, if you have a topic you'd like to discuss in a future meeting and the CDS team will help to make it happen
