Our next informal discussion will focus on fieldwork, access, and opportunity in archaeology.
With limited excavation spots and increasing costs, many students face real challenges in gaining the field experience often required for their degrees. This session will explore questions such as:
- Who gets access to fieldwork, and how are these decisions made?
- What happens when there are far more applicants than available places?
- Are current fieldwork requirements still fair or realistic?
To help frame the discussion, participants are encouraged (but not required) to read: Affording Archaeology: How Field School Costs Promote Exclusivity (available from the library)
This is an open, informal conversation. All perspectives are welcome, and no preparation is necessary.
Bring your lunch and join the discussion.
