Grant Development Manager (0,8-1,0 fte)

The Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) of Leiden University is inviting applications for the position of Grant Development Managerto work as part of the Institute’s Research Support Team (RST). The successful candidate will work closely with the other members of the RST, institute management, and with relevant financial and administrative contacts at the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA) as well as LURIS, to advance, support and guide the Institute’s acquisition and implementation of research grants.

Tasks include

• Overseeing and supporting grant acquisition by providing pre-award assistance to ISGA research staff, including through the development of proposals, contracts, and programmes
• Exploring, identifying, and monitoring research and education funding opportunities relevant to ISGA Research Groups
• Developing pro-active support structures, and matching expertise with existing opportunities
• Supporting international consortium-building for large grant proposals;
• Providing technical assistance in developing proposals, interpreting guidelines and advising researchers on drafting competitive proposals;
• Reviewing, assessing, and offering constructive feedback on proposals to ensure compliance with the funding guidelines
• Implementing projects with the RST and supporting scientific staff in managing and reaching core grant milestones;
• Drafting project interim and progress reports;
• Managing grant budgets and processes;
• Contributing to the development of the RST knowledge base by constantly updating relevant sections
• Organising thematic workshops and writing sessions to improve the quality of submitted grant proposals
• Constantly updating job knowledge by participating in grant development networks, events and seminars

Selection criteria

• Minimum of graduate degree in disciplines related to the work of ISGA;
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in funding development, grant support and advising on externally funded projects;
• Proven working experience with, and successful acquisition in any of the following external funding frameworks: Horizon Europe (Pillar I – ERC, MSCA; Pillar II;) Erasmus+ (Key Actions 2,3; Jean Monnet), NWO (VENI, VIDI, VICI) demonstrated by named projects and the individual role in each project
• Strong analytical skills, organized, able to keep track of multiple projects at the same time;
• Project management experience, particularly with large scale projects
• Ability to advise on research- and education-related grants;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proactive attitude;
• Ability to multitask and work independently and collaboratively, as part of the team;
• Able to set and meet multiple deadlines;
• An excellent command of English in written and spoken word, and an outstanding attention to details.

Institute of Security and Global Affairs

Terms and conditions
The successful candidate will be part of an ambitious and dynamically growing Institute. The candidate will initially be appointed for one year, but with the possibility and intention to turn the position into a permanent one, based on funding and performance.

Salary range from € 3.226,-- to € 5.090,-- gross per month (pay scale 10, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
