Job description

  • Independently preparing and autoclaving growth media for bacteria and fungi
  • Cleaning and sterilizing glassware for various laboratories
  • Properly disposing of various waste streams in the laboratories
  • Assisting the lab manager in organizing the laboratories
  • Ensuring an efficient and safe working environment in the laboratories

Your profile

  • 5 years of work experience in a similar setting at a minimum of MBO3+ level
  • High degree of independence
  • Good command of English, working knowledge of Dutch
  • Orderly, safe, and precise work according to IBL standards in the media kitchens
  • Flexible and customer-oriented: you handle last-minute requests well
  • Solution-oriented
  • Strong sense of responsibility

The Institute for Biology
The research within the Institute of Biology Leiden (IBL) aims to work on the science base of biodiversity and health, which is reflected in our leading principle Harnessing Biodiversity for Health. We perform innovative curiosity-driven research to answer fundamental questions, and solutions-driven research to help solving major societal challenges. The latter include protecting nature’s biodiversity, creating sustainable biotechnology and agriculture and increasing good health. Our research focuses on four Research Themes: Bioactive Molecules, Host-Microbe Interactions, Development & Disease and Evolution & Biodiversity. Terms and conditions
We offer a temporary employment contract for a period of 1 year with the possibility of a permanent contract upon satisfactory performance. Appointment will be made in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, based on the UFO profile of education/research assistant. The salary, depending on education and experience, is at least €2,618 and up to €3,636 gross per month for a full-time position (scale 6-7). The extent of the appointment is a minimum of 0.6 FTE with regard to management of the media kitchen. If proven suitable, the addition of certain tasks may lead to a full-time position (1.0 FTE).

In addition, Leiden University offers good employment conditions.
