Deze sessie zal in het Engels gehouden worden. De informatie over deze sessie is alleen in het Engels beschikbaar.

Transkribus is an AI–driven platform designed to facilitate the automated transcription of both handwritten and printed text from digitised images. Leiden University is a member of READ-COOP, the consortium responsible for the development and maintenance of the Transkribus tool. The platform offers an extensive range of pre-trained models capable of recognizing handwriting across multiple languages and historical periods. Furthermore, it enables users to develop and train customised models tailored to the specific characteristics of their sources. The workshop will present a overview of advanced and recently developed functionalities, including the automated recognition of tabular structures and the identification and annotation of named entities through tags.

This workshop, which provides a systematic introduction to the core functionalities of Transkribus, will enable participants to:

  • import and curate document collections;
  • generate automated transcriptions;
  • apply layout recognition algorithms
  • conduct full-text searches within transcribed materials;
  • train and evaluate custom transcription models;
  • implement effective collection management strategies.

Target audience

Research support staff, library staff, and researchers aiming to enhance the searchability of textual materials
