De gemeente Leiden biedt op 2 december excuses aan voor de rol die vroegere stadsbesturen speelden in kolonialisme en slavernij. Dat kondigde burgemeester Peter Heijkoop aan na vooronderzoek door enkele historici van de Universiteit Leiden. Ook komt er een vervolgonderzoek.
