On Wednesday 11 February (16-17, followed by drinks) archaeologist dr. William A. White (University of California, Berkely) will deliver a guest lecture at Van Steenis (A2.02a). Title of the lecture is 'Beyond Field School: Fighting Authoritarianism by Training Tomorrow's Archaeologists'. It focuses on archaeology within the current social, political and economic situation in the US.

In this talk Dr White will draw upon more than 20 years of experience as an archaeologist working in the US to show how archaeologists and communities across the country are providing pathways for archaeology students, supporting local heritage programs, and fighting against authoritarian takeover of US history. This is a story that is relevant to all countries that are witnessing the spread of nationalism, fiscal austerity, and historical revisionism.

Dr White is visiting the Faculty of Archaeology to participate in the (hybrid) launch of the publication of 'Ethics in Caribbean Archaeology. Past, present, and Future', on Thursday 12 February (16-17, followed by drinks). If you would like to participate in this event, please register using the code on the attached poster. The book launch is both at Van Steenis (A2.02a) and online.
